Loon Pung By Lalita, London

Loon Pung By Lalita, London

'Damn…' That was my first thought as I stepped into the communal space—a cosy seating area, an intimate and beautifully decorated 8-seater dining setup, and the most incredible chef’s kitchen I’ve ever seen in a New Build at Tottenham Hale.

Dreamy Dining Room!

This, dear reader, is where I had the privilege of experiencing 'Loon Pung by Lalita', an exclusive supper club that isn’t even open to the public yet.

I met up with Patty, Will, Claire, Prow, and Mint, and—after all of us getting hopelessly lost trying to find the place (a story for another time!)—we finally made it. We also had the pleasure of meeting Sohini and her husband, adding even more warmth and fun to the evening.

Let's talk about Lalita and the inspiration behind her supper club.

She grew up in a Viet-Chinese household, spending most of her childhood in her family’s restaurant—a place she once resented because it felt like it held her parents hostage, keeping them too busy to spend time with her. Yet, without realising it, the restaurant shaped her. She learned the language of the kitchen simply by watching—how ingredients combined to create a dish, how the aromas signaled when something was ready, and how every movement had a purpose. It all became second nature. Now, having moved to the UK, she’s forging her own culinary path.

The moment I walked in, I was wrapped in a hug of warm, spiced aromas. I may or may not have let out a tiny, involuntary mew as I took a deep inhale (yes, it smelled that good!).

Lalita!

Then came the warmest welcome—Lalita, our chef for the night, greeted us alongside Honey, her friend and roommate, who was our server for the night, before leading us to the beautifully set dining table.

Menu

Excitement buzzed in the air as we settled in, menus and a little backstory in hand.

We were ready.

Crispy Baby Shrimp with Mango Salad

Crispy Baby Shrimp with Mango Salad

A flavour and texture delight! The crispiness of the prawns, the sweet, nutty crunch from the pecan brittle (courtesy of Food & Forest), and the tangy yet refreshing mango salad with a piece of salted dried fish, we were biting it like it was jerky —it was the perfect bite.

The table fell silent, the only sounds being the clinking of cutlery and murmurs of mmm. A good start.

Spicy Mangfish Salad with Cashew Nuts

This dish was so moreish—we all wished for a bigger portion and were convinced it would’ve been amazing with rice.

The balance of sweet, tangy, and spicy flavours was spot on. It packed a real kick, which some found intense, but I loved it. This was my second favourite of the night.

Coconut Curry Soup with Pork Jerky

Coconut Curry Soup with Pork Jerky

Now, this was my absolute favourite and the perfect palate cleanser after the two bold-flavoured starters.

The soup was mellow yet distinctive, similar to Tom Kha but sweeter from the coconut milk. And the pork jerky? Insanely good.

I lucked out with three pieces, while some only had one (oops!)—each bite was meaty, savoury, and packed with flavour. It was so nourishing, I almost asked for more… but I was too shy.

Pork Jerky for the win!
Tender!

24-Hour Slow-Cooked Panang Beef Shank Baked Rice

An absolute delight.

The beef was fall-apart tender, topped with two roasted pecans and what I think were julienned holy basil leaves.

The rice? Perfectly cooked—not mushy at all, with a satisfying bite.

And the creamy Panang curry sauce on the side? We drowned our rice in it, and honestly, I was this close to licking my plate clean.

Refreshing!

Thai Fruit in Light Syrup

The perfect, refreshing end to our meal.

A delicate mix of Marian plum, Nam Dok Mai mango, and Snake fruit in light syrup, served in a martini glass. But what caught my eye?

The perfectly carved mango slice shaped like a leaf—Lalita’s knife skills are next level.

And, for a little fun and theatre, gold glitter dusted the fruit, making it sparkle.

An exceptional five-course meal, and by the end, we were in a full-blown food coma.

Beyond the food, what made the night special was the people—amazing, like-minded souls whom I can now call my friends.

Lalita’s story is inspiring, and 'Loon Pung by Lalita' is more than just a supper club; it’s a deeply personal culinary experience filled with passion, heritage, and beautifully reimagined flavours.

If you love food that tells a story, this is one to add to your list.

The gang!
